LOCATION OF THE COURT
The Grafton County Superior Court is located on the west
side of Route 10 in North Haverhill, approximately two miles north of North Haverhill village and just south of the Grafton County Nursing Home. DIRECTIONS
Emergency telephone calls may be received through the Clerk’s Office. If you need to make any phone calls during your jury service, please advise one of the bailiffs. The Grafton County Superior Court generally does not close due to inclement weather. In some instances, opening will be delayed. Call the court to determine if the proceedings will occur as scheduled (603-787-6963) after 5:00 PM the day before you are scheduled to report for jury service. A message will be left at that number as to the court schedule.
A parking lot is located in front of the courthouse.
If there is an emergency situation that prevents you from appearing on a day you are scheduled to report, call the clerk's office immediately.
All requests for exemptions and postponements must be in writing and received by the court, along with your juror questionnaire by the date specified in your letter from the court. No requests for exemptions or postponements can be handled by telephone.
NOTE: IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR FOR JURY DUTY YOU COULD BE HELD IN CONTEMPT OF COURT.
GRAND JURY SERVICE
Grand juries generally sit in Grafton County for a period of four months. Grand jurors should use the main entrance to the courthouse. Most grand jury sessions are concluded in one day. In some instances, however, one or more additional days may be required. The grand jury will usually sit no later than 4:00 PM.
PETIT JURY SERVICE
All prospective jurors must contact the Grafton Superior Court after 5:00 pm before the date you report for service. An answering machine will let you know whether or not jury instructions and jury selection will go forward the following day. The telephone number for the jury line is 603-787-6963. You are required to appear for general jury instructions at 8:30 a.m. Following jury instructions, juries will be selected for all criminal and civil trials scheduled for that term.
On the day of jury instructions/jury selection all jurors must use the main entrance to the courthouse. Thereafter, jurors who are reporting for cases for which they have been selected are to use the door marked “Jury Entrance” on the south (left) end of the building.
Other than the date of jury selection, jurors are only required to appear for trials for which they are selected as a juror. The average juror serves no more than several days in the course of a month of jury service, although there are exceptions to this general rule, particularly when a lengthy trial is scheduled. Trial days start no earlier than 9:00 am and generally conclude no later than 4:30 pm. The overnight sequestration of jurors during deliberations is exceptionally rare. During jury deliberations, lunch will generally be provided at Court expense.
