CHIEF JUSTICE BRODERICK SENT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE TODAY TO ALL JUDGES, MARITAL MASTERS AND JUDICIAL BRANCH STAFF:

I notified Governor Lynch today that I will be stepping down from the New Hampshire Supreme Court this November after 15 years of service. It was a difficult decision to make because I have so loved my time here and so admire all of you who do the heavy lifting for the justice system day in and day out. But, for a number of personal and professional reasons, I believe the decision to step down was the right one for me and my family. I have every confidence that I will be leaving the Judicial Branch in very capable hands. It is my intent to return to private professional life and to the people and activities I so enjoyed before my judicial service began in 1995.

It had always been my intent to enter public service as a way to give back. I never expected to make it a lifetime career. During my time here, and especially my last six years as Chief Justice, I think all of us have made real progress towards meeting the change that the 21 st century demands. That change, I know, will and must continue.

One of the most memorable parts of my job as Chief Justice was to meet so many of you and to get to know you personally. You are an extraordinary group of dedicated, smart and hardworking professionals. The work all of you do is important to the people of our state and I could not have been more proud these last six years to lead a system in which all of you make such a difference every day to so many.

As you know, my goal, when I began my duties as Chief six years ago, was for us to do all in our collective power to make justice more accessible, affordable and understandable for all our citizens while, at the same time, making the justice system more transparent. Please accept my personal thanks for all you did to advance the cause. I will miss all of you and I wish you nothing but success in the years ahead. I remain grateful for your friendship and support. You have my sincere respect.

John Broderick
