JUDICIAL BRANCH LAUNCHES REDESIGNED WEBSITE

Goal is to improve public access to information

CONCORD, May 25---The Judicial Branch today launched a newly redesigned website which provides users with easier and more efficient access to practical information about the state court system. The website address is www.courts.state.nh.us.

The redesign project, which included development of improved navigation tools and updated content, was conducted by a team of Judicial Branch employees, led by Associate Supreme Court Justice Gary Hicks. "Our goal with the redesign has always been to provide better services to the public through our website, especially for those citizens who are coming to court without lawyers," Justice Hicks said. He described the improvements to the site, all developed by court staff, as "the most cost-effective way to deliver information about the justice system to members of the public, students, lawyers and clients, and most important of all, provide all New Hampshire citizens with meaningful access to their courts."

All design and technical work on the new site was conducted by Brian Eddy, the Judicial Branch website co-ordinator, using only existing Judicial Branch resources. Eddy created the navigational tools and worked with team members to refine the structure and information on the site. Technical assistance was also provided by Theresa Pare-Curtis, Ed Thievon and Heather Spear at the state Department of Information Technology.

The redesign team members were District Court Judge Laurence Cullen; Family Division administrator Brigette Siff Holmes; Chief Technology Officer Peter Croteau; technology manager Dan Morin; Joan Bishop, director of Judicial Branch education; court service representative Julie Lamson,; Karen Borgstrom, director of the Office of Mediation and Arbitration; court assistant Kelly Mederos-Parry; administrative assistant Lynda Troy; Law Librarian Mary Searles; Supreme Court deputy clerk Michelle Caraway; District Court regional administrator Patrick Ryan; Probate Court executive secretary Patty Cole; training specialist Sarah Fox; case manager Sharon Perreault; court clerk coordinator Barbara Sweet; and Laura Kiernan, director of the Judicial Branch Communications Office which oversees website content and design.

"The Judicial Branch website is the most valuable tool we have for connecting the court system with the public," Kiernan said. "The navigation tools on the redesigned pages are more modern and streamlined so that citizens can quickly find the information they want about the justice system, whether it's a Supreme Court opinion, a form or court rule, a telephone number or a video tour for students," she said.
