From Sherry Bisson, SAC chairperson:
It has been my honor to take over as chair of the Staff Advisory Committee, following in the footsteps of Diane Caron and Sherri Kluesener. We all owe them a big thanks for the work they did in making this committee a success. It is the Committee's hope that we can continue to support court staff and bring new ideas and concerns to the attention of the court leaders. Through this kind of communication we can continue, as a court system, to provide quality service to the public of the State of New Hampshire.
Here are the latest developments:
- At the request of Chief Justice Broderick, the SAC put together the Staff Survey, which many of you participated in; we received 256 responses. We received many good suggestions and comments from the staff and we were extremely pleased with the staff participation. Both Laura Kiernan and Laura Mitchell took on the task of reviewing all the responses and putting them together, which we reviewed at the April 18th SAC meeting. A summary of the survey results is available for you to review at on the JIBB.
- Based upon responses that we received, the SAC is already working on some ideas that the court staff suggested. An area that received high marks of importance from court staff was court equipment. The SAC will be meeting on June 25th with Linda Hodgdon, the Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services, which oversees judicial branch facilities, including building and renovating courthouses and court space, and works closely with the Chief Justice, the Administrative Council and with the Court Accreditation Commission on other facilities issues including equipment, furniture purchases and building improvements. Steve Lorentzen, who heads up the Bureau of Court Facilities and is a frequent visitor to our courts, will also attend. His office, which reports to Mike Connor in the Commissioner's Office, manages all 17 state-owned courthouses, negotiates leases with cities and counties at 27 courthouse sites and resolves building issues at all 44 court locations. Both Steve and Mike will join Commissioner Hodgdon at our meeting.
- At our January meeting, Barbara Sweet, director of judicial branch education, spoke with the SAC about staff education and training. Barbara was looking for ideas from the SAC that she could implement for education and training. The SAC had many good ideas that each member had received from their individual court locations. Barbara was able to take this these ideas from the SAC, and bring it back to the Judicial Branch Education Committee. Barbara has also set up a sub committee to work on these ideas. Barbara and I are members of the committee as well as Nancy Miller, Family Division Administrator and Marty Wagner, Probate Administrator. This subcommittee has been working over the past few months on developing new training modules for new employees for the various levels of court. At the April 18th SAC meeting, Barbara presented what the subcommittee had completed thus far. Some of the training modules have already been implemented in some of the training sessions. The sub committee and Judicial Branch Education Committee are currently reviewing, and working on these new training modules.
- As many of you know, the SAC put together the Fisher Cats baseball game outing for court staff, and their families. Game Day is June 22. We have had two very successful turnouts over the past couple of years, and this years Fisher Cats event is looking like another successful turnout. A special thanks goes out to Lin Bolduc from the SAC, for putting this entire event together.
The following is a list of the current SAC members and their court locations. Please feel free as court staff to contact any of the SAC members with your ideas, comments or concerns.
