On December 11, 2010, Cpl. Scott G. Dimond, son of Franklin District Court Security Officer Leland C. Dimond, was awarded the New Hampshire National Guard Medal of Honor posthumously. The medal symbolizes "dignity, integrity and valor of the brave servicemen and servicewomen who have proudly represented their home state and given the last full measure of devotion in defense of their country." Dimond, who died from injuries sustained in an explosion when the military convoy he was traveling in came under attack on October 13th, 2008 in Afghanistan, was a soldier with C Company, 3rd of the 172 Mountain Infantry Regiment. Prior to joining the National Guard he served 18 years on the Franklin Police Department. Known for his honesty, dependability and trustworthiness, Dimond was also honored on what would have been his fortieth birthday, by the Franklin Police Department when they renamed their building, the Scott G. Dimond Police Facility.
