R-01-001, In re Recommendations of Task Force for the Renewal of Judicial Conduct Procedures

In September 2000, this court asked Rev. Jonathan DeFelice and Wilfred L. Sanders, Jr., to create a task force to undertake an independent review of the structure and work of the Committee on Judicial Conduct. On January 10, 2001, after a public hearing and open meetings, the task force released its report. The task force recommended, among other things, the creation of a newly constituted Judicial Conduct Commission that is independent of the court system and the other branches of government, the establishment by the Supreme Court of an Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, and amendments to the Code of Judicial Conduct.

Copies of the report are available for review at the Supreme Court Building.  Click here to read the report on-line.

The court now invites comment on the task force report and recommendations. Members of the bench, bar, legislature, executive branch, or public may file with the clerk of the supreme court comments on the task force report and recommendations. An original and seven copies of all comments shall be filed. Comments may also be e-mailed to the court at "JCCcomment@courts.state.nh.us." All comments should be filed by March 2, 2001.
