Susan Warner announced as Communications Manager of the Judicial Branch

CONCORD -The New Hampshire Supreme Court is pleased to introduce Susan Warner, a veteran communications specialist, as the new Communications Manager for the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB). Susan assumed her duties on March 27 in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and hit the ground running, assisting the Branch with vital court communications throughout these critical times. Susan succeeds Carole Alfano, who retired in January.

A resident of Norwich, Vermont, Susan joins NHJB from Vermont Law School (VLS)  in South Royalton, Vt., where she served as the Director of Communications and External Affairs. Prior to her work at VLS, Susan served as Director of Public Affairs for the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, managing a staff of 10 that conducted programs in the Outreach and Education Division, and was involved in media relations and marketing efforts, web and social media strategies, and print publications. Her division was the 2015 and 2017 recipient of awards from the National Association of Conservation Information for books and regulation publications.

In previous positions, Susan served as Senior Editor at Chelsea Green Publishing in White River Junction, Vt., where she edited 10-15 books per year, working with authors to develop concepts for books and for promoting published titles. She worked for more than a decade at Dartmouth College, first as Publications Manager and later as its Director of Communications for IT beginning in 2008, a transformational period for the College’s information technology network and electronic communication services. Susan is a graduate of Bucknell (Lewisburg, Pa) and American (Washington, DC) Universities.

“We are pleased to welcome Susan, and believe that she is uniquely qualified to help the Branch move forward as we meet the significant challenges presented by the Coronavirus pandemic. "We will miss Carole Alfano and are grateful for Carole’s invaluable service to the Branch." Senior Associate Justice Gary E. Hicks said.

“I am honored to serve in the role of communications manager and look forward to working with justices, judges, clerks, and staff to strengthen the Branch’s communications program and support for its mission providing access to justice for all New Hampshire residents, ” said Susan.

In addition to responding to media inquiries about the court system and working with media to optimize coverage of individual hearings and trials, the Communications Manager works with the Supreme Court and the trial court administrative judges on a wide variety of public outreach programs, fosters internal communication, and works with our partners in the legal community and the legislature.

The Communications Manager is also responsible for the Judicial Branch website, including daily postings of court documents, dockets and press releases and serves as the liaison between the Supreme Court and the Court’s Committee on the Judiciary and the Media.
